The DCD771 is a detuned version of the classic Dewalt 2-speed, 1/2"
chuck, VSR drill. Bigger, heavier, slower, less power, lower capacity
batteries, slower charger, soft case, no belt or bit holder. Built to a
price point of $99 on sale. Great for the once a month DIYer, not an
everyday contractor tool.
The closest contractor grade version of this drill kit is the DEWALT DCD780C2 20-Volt Max Li-Ion Compact 1.5 Ah Drill/Driver Kit which is $200+ shipped. Potentially double the price if you can find the 771 on sale.

BATTERIES & CHARGER:
The Li-Ion 20V batteries have multiple cells which might on an individual basis drift, the charger will correct for this drift underneath acknowledged conditions: temperature. The 771 charger will solely accurately charge the batteries once each the battery and charger ar between sixty five and seventy five F. Whereas the enclosed charger for the 780 features a cold/hot delay to catch up on cold/hot batteries. Charging outside the 65-75 temperature window can shorten the battery life, by however much?, that is the $64K question. For a house owner, the 65-75 restriction is not any huge deal, for a contractor time is cash. The 771 charger has 2 keyed holes on 4" centers to hold it on a wall. twine seems to be 6-foot long.

DRILL PERFORMANCE:
The 771 arrived 12-2, charged the battery till the charger stopped flashing. Chucked a Torx T-30 bit and it took 50-sec to drive and take away a 5/16 x 4" woodscrew into a pine log thrice, color American state affected. My thirty YO B&D 3/8" 120V VSR drill managed to urge a similar screw halfway in before it stalled. In fairness to the B&D drill, shifting the 771 to high and it conjointly stalled. it had been virtually dark and therefore the light-emitting diode lightweight was virtually blazing. Stayed on for a least 10-sec once the switch was free.
The bag is spacious, was ready to get each drills within. The drill is incredibly stout, you'll tell there's steel within. the whole back and handle is grippy rubber, the black. this could be a coffee dollar Dewalt, however it positively is not low cost.
